How do I configure "O2" broadband lines?
The settings for "O2" broadband are very different from most other networks. However, once you know how then it's easy to configure your router:
[Click here to download the example setup guide for a Zyxel 660R router]
[Click here to download the example setup guide for a Netgear DGN2000 router]

(If you have a Thomson TG585v7 purchased elsewhere - not from us - then please download this customized firmware: TG575v7 firmware)

As you will see in the example configuration guide for the Zyxel 660R, the settings are as follows:
Username/password: not required (this type of broadband is based upon the IP address, there is no need to enter a username)
Mode: routing (not 'bridged')
Encapsulation: RFC 1483 [routed, but some routers actually only work in "bridged"!] (May also be called "Ethernet encapsualtion" or "ENET ENCAP" or simply "static IP". Never use "PPPoA" or "PPPoE")
Multiplexing: LLC (not "VC")
VPI: 0 VCI:101 (NOTE: yes, this IS meant to be 101 instead of the more familiar 38)
MTU: 1500 (This is often accessed via "WAN > Advanced > MTU")
Static IP*: [enter your assigned IP here]
Subnet mask: [enter your assigned subnet mask] (NOTE: do not assume it to be 255.255.255.0 as each installation will have it's own gateway and subnet mask)
Gateway IP: [enter your assigned gateway IP here]
ADSL modulation type: Multimode (NOTE: please ensure you’ve updated to the latest firmware)
*Note about "Static IP": If we have indicated that your account is a "Dynamic IP" then DO NOT enter a static IP (the static IP, subnet mask, default gateway AND the DNS server will all be automatically assigned to your router by our serves); some routers actually have the option of "dynamic IP" or "obtain automatically". IMPORTANT: when using a dynamic IP please use the following SMTP server to send email (unless you already have your own email server): o2relay.iseu.co.uk (this is due to port 25 being blocked on dynamic IPs)
Note about "Modulation": Uses ADSL2+ G.dmt 992.5 (or Annex-m if that is the type of line you have ordered)
Annex-M: If you are using a Zyxel router then please be advised that some Zyxel models do not support annex-m without editing the Autoexec.net file. The 660R (listed above) does, but if your model doesn't please follow this procedure:
Telnet into the Zyxel router's command line interface and type these command:
sys edit autoexec.net
(Then press i)
wan ghs set annex aijlm
(Then press x, and reboot the router)
Please raise a Support ticket if you require assistance; we can change profiles, run line tests, and set rDNS the same day.
