Host email only (not WWW)

How to host domain email with us but leave everything else (such as WWW) with the existing provider

  • Create an order with us as per usual
  • Make the following DNZ zone file changes with the existing ISP:
    • Delete ANY mail exchanger (MX) records
    • Delete hostname (A) record "mail", if it exists
    • Create a new hostname (A) record "mail" with the IP address of our email server; please check with Support for the correct IP address (usually 213.133.152.2)
    • Create a new mail exchanger (MX) record with a priority value of 21 and pointing to the new hostname, adding a "." (period) to the end of the FQDN. For example: mail.mydomainname.com.
    • Add other anti-spam records to the domain
      • Reverse DNS of any other email servers you might be using
      • Hostname (A) and mail exchanger (MX) records for any additional email servers
      • SPF record
      • Domain key signature (see SmarterMail help section)

You should now be able to access and use our email services for the domain as usual.
